4 Days Until Takeoff (Grigoriy in Russia)

It seems like just yesterday I was on the University of Michigan Website, searching programs to Study Abroad in Russia.  And now, after a year and many applications later, I am about to embark on one of the greatest adventures in my life.  Studying Russian in the classroom the past 3 years has been the most rewarding experience, and now I am ready to take my studies to the max.  True, at first it was a little overwhelming, finding the right sources of funding and the likes, but the heart leads you to wonderful places, and miracles are granted to those who have the passion to pursue their inner desires.  My miracle came in the form of my study adviser pointing me to an eclecticism of organizations, one of which was The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship.  Benjamin A. Gilman was a congressional delegate to the United Nations, a congressman, and was a member of the New York State Assembly.  He was a great man, and it is after him that the Gilman Award is named because he believed so strongly that an international perspective was important to the overall wellness of the global state.  Today, the Gilman Award is granted to those who pursue studies abroad, whether it be Russia, Morocco, Ecuador, India, Japan, -You too can have the opportunity to study abroad.  According to their website,

“The Gilman Scholarship Program aims to diversify the kinds of students who study and intern abroad and the regions where they go.” https://gilmanapplication.iie.org/

So please join me on this adventure as I explore and learn about the largest country in the world; Russia.  And if you want to go to Russia, China, or India, and may think that it is not possible for financial reasons, rest assured that your local campus has the opportunities you need, but you must search for them.  The Gilman International Scholarship was absolutely instrumental in making my dreams of study abroad a reality, and it can do the same for you!  Stay Tuned…

“There is no passion to be found playing small–in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”

-Nelson Mandela
