When in Lima. (Aren in Peru)

We arrived in Lima, Peru late Thursday night after 20 hours of travel. Once we arrived, we travelled to our hostel that is located in the heart of the Miraflores district. It was about 1 a.m. and I was introduced to a city that was full of music, energy and good vibes.

The next day we woke up and ate breakfast on the roof of our hostel, enjoying the open air and incredible atmosphere–this has now become routine. We left our hostel and ventured into the city where we found beautiful parks, an amazing ocean view, and countless shops and restaurants. We also celebrated our incredible student leader’s birthday, Moriah, by dancing, eating lomo saltoado, and trying the famous drink Pisco sour.

The next day, we went and exchanged more money and made our way to the Parque de Amor, the location of paragliding, and made our way to the beach where we spent the day relaxing and enjoying the breathtaking view of this country. This night was amazing and on the roof of our hostel we met so many amazing people from around the world and heard stories of their journeys. We danced, laughed, and sang all night.

The next day, we went to the cliff where many people went paragliding and saw the landscape of the city. Around 2 p.m. we went to the ocean and had surfing lessons. Our teacher was incredible and I was pleasantly surprised that all of us were able to stand up and ride. I went and traveled around the city later that night and saw the art and church in the central district. We ended the night once again on the roof of our hostel talking and laughing all night.

I have only been in Lima, Peru for 4 days and I have already been so fortunate to experience so much life and culture. I cannot wait to see what the remainder of the trip entails, as we will begin our program later today.
